Media Advisory – September 25, 2014, Oral Argument in No. 14-1845(L), Duke v. State of North Carolina

Case Information:  Plaintiffs appeal from an order of the Middle District of North Carolina denying their motion for a preliminary injunction to block the operation of amendments to North Carolina election laws (N.C. Session Law 2013-381). Appellate briefs are due September 17, 2014.

Argument Date & Time:  Thursday, September 25, 2014, 1:00 p.m.

Location:  Charles R. Jonas Federal Building, 401 West Trade Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28202. Courtroom No. 2 (Robert D. Potter Courtroom). Directions to Courthouse

Security Screening:  Bring photo identification and allow sufficient time to pass through security screening.  Do not bring restricted items, such as electronic devices, weapons, food, or beverages.  See Electronic Device Policy (Western District of North Carolina).

Courtroom and Panel:  Argument will be heard by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. The identity of the panel will be released on the morning of argument.

Public Seating:  Public seating will be on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Reserved Media Seating:  The deadline for requesting reserved media seating is Tuesday, September 23, 2014.  One representative from each news organization may request reserved seating on the Contact page of  the court's Web site by selecting the Media Seating category in the dropdown menu.  Include your name, title, news organization, address, email address, and phone number with your request for media seating.  You may also contact Mark Zanchelli, Chief Deputy Clerk, at (804) 916-2760.  Approval will be sent via email.  Your approved application and media credentials will entitle you to a reserved media seat in the courtroom.  You must be seated in the courtroom by 12:30 p.m., or your reserved seat will be subject to release.  Media representatives who are not on the reserved seating list may use public seating on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Media Interviews: Media interviews must be conducted off the courthouse property and courthouse steps and must not impede public access to the courthouse.
